What is a service?
A motor vehicle service or tune-up is a series of maintenance procedures carried out at a set time interval or after the vehicle has travelled a certain distance. The service intervals are specified by the vehicle manufacturer in a service schedule and some modern cars display the due date for the next service electronically on the instrument panel.
The completed services are usually recorded in a service book which is rubber stamped by the service centre upon completion of each service. A complete service history usually adds to the resale value of a vehicle.
What parts do i need for my vehicle
A service can include various parts for your vehicle, you may need anything from the below options, all of which are recommended by both vehicle manufacturers and part suppliers.
Motor oil is a lubricant used in internal combustion engines, which power cars, motorcycles, lawnmowers, engine-generators, and many other machines. In engines, there are parts which move against each other, and the friction wastes otherwise useful power by converting the kinetic energy to heat. It also wears away those parts, which could lead to lower efficiency and degradation of the engine. This increases fuel consumption, decreases power output, and can lead to engine failure.
Lubricating oil creates a separating film between surfaces of adjacent moving parts to minimize direct contact between them, decreasing heat caused by friction and reducing wear, thus protecting the engine.
A Glow Plug is a heating device used to aid starting diesel engines. In cold weather, high speed diesel engines can be difficult to start because the mass of the cylinder block and cylinder head absorb the heat of compression, preventing ignition (which relies on that heat)
A Spark Plug is a device for delivering electric current from an ignition system to the combustion chamber of a spark-ignition engine to ignite the compressed fuel/air mixture by an electric spark, while containing combustion pressure within the engine. A spark plug has a metal threaded shell, electrically isolated from a central electrode by a porcelain insulator.
A sump is a low space that collects often undesirable liquids such as water or chemicals.
The sump plug is a bolt at the bottom of the sump pan, which enables oil to be drained from the engine easily, this is usually done when you're doing an oil change.
Due to the fact thats it is so cheap and easy to do, Many people like to replace the sump plug whilst doing an oil change. Not only is it cheap and easy to do, it also leaves you with peace of mind that the part is new and not likely to split and leak.
